waterslide paper (Emulsion Lift technique)

This technique involves printing your image onto a piece of waterslide paper and then proceeding to coat in 2 or 3 layers of clear gloss spray. the spray id to make sure the image is waterproof therefore staying together when not part of the paper. Once the three coats have fully dried you then grab yourself a tray of warm water and submerge your dried print into one of them. After a few seconds of agitating the water you should see that the print itself becomes separate from the paper and at this stage you can remove the paper and leave the print floating in the water. You can then proceed to try and open up the print as flat as possible in the water at the same time as being gentle so it doesn’t rip. Then you can place your paper under your print and arrange it how you wish onto your paper and remove from the tray of water. Finally take a wet paintbrush and gently arrange the print onto the paper removing excess water and leave to dry.

In my case i will be kind of destroying the print to give off the desired message of my images so in the final steps where i am placing it onto the paper and flattening it i will also be ripping and rearranging it. From what i have researched apparently this technique can be tedious and frustrating so you have to be careful not to rip the print but from researching i also may have found a different final piece representation i might want to recreate.

My Two ideas are as follows:

Idea 1 : This idea is to take portraits with the models hands being away from the face or from different parts of the body looking almost as if they are pulling something and then after the picture is placed onto the second piece of paper i will rip it and place the edges if the rips in the hand of the model.

Idea 2 : This would consist of me getting one really good photo that i am proud of and cutting dispersing it across many different sheets of the paper. I am going to create a draft drawing of what i mean by this.
